Francisco Vasquez de Coronado

He discovered the southwestern part of the United States, including the Grand Canyon.

Birth- Coronado was born into a noble family in Salamanca, Spain, in 1510
Married to- Coronado had married the daughter of the colonial treasurer three years after he got to the Americas.
Reasons for exploration- He wanted to find riches to improve the spanish empire.


Coronado set out for the New world at the age of 25 with New Spains first viceroy. He came to Mexico and got married within three years. He wanted more riches than the ones he got by getting married so he set out North with 300 soldiers and 1000 indians.he traveled through what is now northern Mexico and the southwestern USA (including Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas).

Coronado found native americans on his journey and tried to make them convert. The natives fought with arrows and almost killed Coronado. The spaniards fought back and chased the natives out of their own village. The village was then searched but Coronado found no gold there. He searched far more places and discovered far more things, He even killed more natives but he didn't find any riches.


Coronado failed and went back to Mexico where he was found guilty af being cruel to natives.
